BRUCHECK

Background:
Brucellosis, a reemerging zoonotic disease, is one of the major widely distributed bacteriological diseases worldwide, and represents socioeconomic and public health problem. With due course of time the importance of vaccination to control animal brucellosis is unquestionable; however, there are many issues of concerns to adopt vaccination in practice. Till date, live-attenuated vaccines as Strain-19 for bovine brucellosis and Rev.1 for caprine & ovine brucellosis are the most utilized vaccines due to their efficiency in comparison to the inactivated and subunits vaccines. These attenuated vaccines require extreme precautions during the attenuation so that optimum protective immune response can be obtained without questioning safety. The chances of reversion of attenuated strain as happened with RB51 turns benefit–risk ratio in favor of inactivated and subunit vaccines. With these vaccines different approaches have been attempted but subunit as well as inactivated vaccines fails to induce ample immune responses with limited success. However, for a successful prevention needs a long time plan and huge money involved in the process. In large animals presently, available vaccine can only be used for calf hood vaccination. There is no vaccine or treatment of brucella positive animals. These remain continuous reactor and spreader of the disease with continuous shedding of bacteria in the environment. In India, economic losses due to Brucellosis in livestock is responsible for a median loss of US $ 3.4 billion (5th-95th percentile 2.8-4.2 billion). Detection, confirmation and culling is the worldwide adopted policy for the brucella control along with calf hood vaccination. In India, we can’t sacrifice animals due to religious reasons so we follow test, confirm and segregate the brucella positive animals in particularly gaushalas and other animal quarantine centre. However, these infected animals remain reactor for throughout life and continue to shed the bacteria in environment exposing nearby population, wild animals and stray animals at the verge of risk. These all continue to spread the disease, particularly through the semen of infected bulls during natural service and still in rural India, it is very common practice. Further, lack of awareness and diagnostic facilities, the infected animals remain undiagnosed and continue to source of infection including human transmission. The condition is further aggravated as there no recommended treatment for the prevention and treatment of the brucellosis:
Technology Details:
The present formulation is a novel polyherbal preparation which has the capacity to target several etiological pathways leading to prevention of Brucella settlement and its clearance from the circulation of infected animals. It also has the capacity to enhance immunity to prevent the settlement of brucella in susceptible animal population and can be recommended for prophylactic use. This preparation is safe and effective, easy to use with low cost and does not have any toxic or side effect with high therapeutic safety margin. Therefore, considering all the lacking and drawbacks, socio-economic impact on farming society it is imperative to obviate said drawbacks. Thus, the present invention provides safe, and cost effective poly herbal preparations for the prevention and cure of bovine brucellosis.
